Brian Barry is the Senior Technical QA/QC Manager at Site Design Group. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is a LEED Accredited Professional. With more than 30 years of experience in the Chicago-area green industry, Brian brings deep expertise in landscape construction and technical coordination.
Over the course of his career, he has managed a wide range of project types, from high-end residential landscapes to large-scale commercial developments, with a particular focus on complex roof decks and detailed hardscape construction. Among his more memorable projects was overseeing the installation of a Chicago Transit Authority train car on the roof of a 10-story building in the West Loop as part of a high-profile amenity deck.

A strong proponent of civic engagement and community leadership, Ernie serves on the boards of numerous service organizations and professional juries, including the Driehaus Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design, City Parks Alliance, several Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) organizations, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and the Near South Planning Board. Since joining the Commission on Chicago Landmarks in 2007, he has served as the Chair since 2021.
In addition to his professional practice, Ernie is a trusted advisor, frequent lecturer, and recipient of numerous honors recognizing his contributions to the profession and the communities he serves. In 2024, he delivered his first TEDx talk in Chicago, sharing perspectives on design, community, and the power of the built environment.

Hana brings a balance of innovation and logic to every phase of her work, from conceptual visioning to construction details.
Hana is a frequent presenter at industry conferences, and also previously served on the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development’s inaugural Committee on Design, where she brought her expertise and vision to shaping the city’s built environment. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the AIA Chicago Chapter.
Born into a family of designers in Tokyo and shaped by a diverse educational and professional background, she brings a global perspective to her practice. She is fluent in Japanese, tried speaking French, and continually inspired by cross-cultural approaches to design.

Hyeonha Park is a Site Designer and an emerging architectural designer based in Site Design Group’s Tokyo, Japan branch office. She brings a passion for landscape, urban, and graphic design that contributes to community well-being. She graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earning a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a minor in Design Communication.
While at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Hyeonha was a Supplemental Instructor and mentor to students. Having lived and studied in South Korea, the United States, and Japan, Hyeonha enjoys approaching design through a cross-cultural perspective, and is dedicated to designing spaces and visual experiences that integrate architecture, landscape, and sustainability to foster meaningful connections between people and place. A fun fact about Hyeonha is that her hometown accent occasionally sneaks into my English.

Kari Lin Aass is the Director of Finance at Site Design Group. Her educational background in International Business Administration with a minor in Film Studies has allowed her to stay focused in finance and accounting while thriving in creative environments.
She started in public accounting after graduating, working with businesses in various industries in Paris before moving to Chicago in 2014. Here, she began her journey into the design world, working closely alongside architects and designers and bridging the gap between design and numbers. She has extensive experience with financial reporting, project accounting, process standardization, invoicing, and budgeting.
Kari Lin is fluent in French and Norwegian. In her free time, she enjoys walking and discovering the city; you can usually find her outside in Lincoln Park or by the lake.

Originally from the Philadelphia suburbs, Katy grew up exploring nature along the Delaware River and in the Pocono Mountains, sparking her lifelong love for the outdoors. He previously served as a Green Streets Manager for the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT). Russ is an ecological restoration professional focusing on protecting and improving native habitats while accounting for community usage and economic growth. He also has experience coordinating large-scale projects that bridge public and private sector interests.

Growing up in Central Pennsylvania, Sara spent the majority of her time outdoors exploring and learning about the natural environment, which eventually helped to lead her to a career in landscape architecture.
Before joining Site Design Group, Sara practiced in Chicago and Philadelphia, contributing to projects of varying scales. Outside of work, she enjoys pilates, reading, hiking with her family, and petting all of the dogs. She is currently based in Asheville, North Carolina.

Sophia Essian is a Landscape Architect and BIM Manager at Site Design Group, where she helps connect design, technology, and project delivery. She supports projects from planning and conceptual design through construction documentation and implementation, while also leading BIM standards, coordination workflows, and technical systems that help teams work more effectively together.
Known for her structured thinking, attention to detail, and collaborative approach, Sophia enjoys solving complex coordination challenges and turning them into clear, practical solutions. She works closely with designers, project managers, consultants, and stakeholders to improve communication, strengthen technical quality, and support thoughtful, inclusive project outcomes. Her interests include accessibility, human-centered design, project delivery systems, and finding ways to make both projects and processes more approachable.

When she’s not troubleshooting BIM workflows, Sophia is usually spending time with her pampered cat, Chesher, and her very anxious (but beloved) dog, Big Boy. She enjoys walking and biking through Chicago’s neighborhoods, baking cakes with perhaps more buttercream and sprinkles than strictly necessary, organizing her perpetually evolving spaces one closet at a time, and building small habits that make life feel calmer and more intentional. She loves slow mornings with coffee and time to think, books that make sense of messy human moments, and discovering well-loved spaces that make people feel at home.

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Ireland before settling in Chicago, bringing an international perspective to his work and a commitment to creating well-crafted, functional, and beautiful landscapes.

Yuki has a background in architecture, holding a Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Born in South Korea, she is Japanese and grew up in Australia. She is fluent in Japanese and Korean and is currently representing our Japan branch office in Tokyo.

Yuying Shen is a member of the Design Team at Site Design Group. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and brings an artistic perspective to design, viewing space as an emotional, cultural, and sensory experience. Inspired by both the energy of urban life and the quiet strength of nature, Yuying seeks to create environments that feel vibrant, grounded, and deeply connected to human experience.
She is interested in how movement, rhythm, and daily life shape spatial perception and urban form. This curiosity extends into her personal practice, where she explores dance as a way of understanding flow, energy, and connection within the built environment. Yuying believes that well-designed environments can enhance quality of life, while everyday human activity in turn animates and gives meaning to place.
Outside of work, she enjoys exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods and traveling, drawing inspiration from different cultures, landscapes, and patterns of daily life.
