As a subconsultant to Knight Engineering, site design group, ltd. worked with the Chicago Department of Transportation on the realignment of Wentworth Avenue between Cermak Road and Roosevelt Road in Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood. After careful analysis of pedestrian flows, adjacent land use, and zoning, the mile-long stretch has been split into three different phases to guide the design and implementation of the project. The mixed-use, park, and commerce zones are organized to present the future identity of Chinatown as a pedestrian-oriented destination in Chicago. Sections A and B of the connector are complete, from Cermak Road to the Ping Tom Memorial Park Fieldhouse, with the remaining sections ongoing.
