As a subconsultant to Farr Associates, site is providing landscape architecture services for the existing New Graduate Residence Hall designed by Edward Durrell Stone in 1962 which upon completion will become the new Harris School of Public Policy. Located in the center of the UC campus facing the Midway Plaisance, the renovated landscape design allows for free and unrestricted access around the perimeter of the building while restoring the original upper plinth, concrete sitework, and façade. Access to the building will be improved through a new northwest entry stair and a new sloped walkway for accessible access. The landscape design focuses on the use of native planting and creative stormwater solutions by daylighting all of the rainwater from the roof and walkways into two stormwater planter areas in order to infiltrate water into the ground rather than the stormwater sewer. The project aims to achieve LEED platinum and will be one of the first buildings accredited for the Living Building Challenge in Illinois.
