As a part of the 1-90/94 at I-290 Jane Byrne (Circle) Interchange reconstruction, the existing Peoria Street Bridge was completely replaced with a new pedestrian passageway to connect to the UIC-Halsted CTA Blue Line Station and the University of Illinois at Chicago north and south campuses across the expressway. The goals of the project were to enhance the pedestrian experience, provide accessible pedestrian thoroughfares, improve the aesthetic experience, and provide safety enhancements. Additional phases of the Jane Byrne Interchange are currently ongoing.
