site worked with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) on multiple redevelopment projects for the new McCormick Square – located between the South Loop, Chinatown, Prairie District, and Bronzeville, adjacent to the McCormick Place convention center.
Shared Street:
The Prairie Avenue Shared Street connects the Wintrust Arena, the Marriott Marquis Hotel, and the Prairie District Park. It is the second shared street in the City of Chicago and serves as an important pedestrian-oriented amenity to the entire McCormick Place development.
Outdoor Plaza:
Nearby, the outdoor dining plaza at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at McCormick Place was renovated to include firepits, dining and lounge seating, and lush seasonal planters.
Pocket Park:
As part of the development of the Wintrust Arena, a 3,000-square-foot multi-purpose event center that is home to DePaul University’s basketball teams and the Marriott Marquis Hotel, the new 0.5-acre Prairie District Pocket Park provides much-needed recreational space for the neighborhood. The park’s curvilinear form divides the space into three sections; a children’s play space, a dog-friendly area, and a connecting seating and gathering plaza.
