The landscape development and pedestrian control strategies were essential in the development of the pedestrian bridges at Lakeshore Drive and Buckingham Fountain.
Designed by the internationally renown Santiago Calatrava, the sleek bridges were developed with numerous challenges to hurdle. Retention of sightlines along Lakeshore Drive, integration of the historic core of Grant Park, and the framing of Buckingham Fountain to Lake Michigan were achieved with this dynamic bridge design.
The landscape development and hardscape design were formulated to guide pedestrians from the fountain table towards the bridge entrances and away from the vehicular roadways.
