The spectacular bridge treatments began for Chicago’s hosting of the Democratic National Convention in 1996. Bright red star-studded railings, ornate ramp designs and newly developed LED lighting created a dramatic enhancement to the bridges spanning the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago.
The treatments are to continue through 2008, with the infusion of perennial and floral landscape treatments that blanket the embankments. The bridges, landscape and access barriers along the expressways identify the Central Business District of Chicago’s downtown, displaying a spectacular treatment of the urban fabric.
