This new planter design and landscape development at Chicago State University served to initiate the restoration of this working class neighborhood. As a prototype for median planters throughout the City of Chicago, the planter walls depicted a simple chamfered profile with low maintenance and high visibility.
The colorful blocks of perennials and ornamental grasses create a flowing trail of movement and texture, enhancing the roadway experience along this major corridor. The creation of this median planter has encouraged landscape beautification efforts at both the University as well as the adjacent residential neighborhood.
