This unique development brings art-interested public housing residents and practicing artists together. Dorchester Art+Housing Collaborative is a unique community of mixed-income housing for artists, arts professionals, and those with a creative impulse, designed to foster community collaboration around the arts. Once a 32-townhome Chicago Housing Authority project, the previously abandoned buildings were redeveloped by Theaster Gates and REBUILD FOUNDATION. Working with Landon Bone Baker Architects, site design group. ltd. led the landscape architecture for the new collaborative, which are informal and contemplative. The landscape features special elements such as a rock garden, planted flagstone plaza, informal seating plaza made of textured, stratefied outcropping, and textural plants. The site also includes a bluestone spiral, playful gathering spaces, and a wide variety of stone types and applications.
