Located in a densely populated changing neighborhood on Chicago’s northwest side, the purpose of the open space study was to identify and locate potential sites for parkland acquisition. The study encompassed an area of roughly twenty five square blocks of urban infill, identifying lots of two or more acres of land.
As a second phase to the project, the abandoned Bloomingdale rail line was identified as a potential bicycle trail spanning a three mile corridor. The importance of this proposed bicycle trail is the connection of diverse communities, as the trail traverses through numerous neighborhoods providing a cohesive linkage system.
